Tasting notes
Good full red. Ripe, slightly high-toned aromas of strawberry, licorice and tobacco. Fat, broad and plush, with excellent depth of raspberry, strawberry and spice flavors. For all its early sweetness of fruit, this spicy, vibrant wine finishes classically dry, with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length. I'd lay it down for a minimum of five or six years.

The 2009 Echezeaux (from En Orveaux) is pure seduction. Layers of silky, perfumed fruit emerge from the glass in this crystalline Burgundy. The aromas and flavors turn brighter with time, giving the wine additional lift and freshness. Sweet red berries, flowers, spices and minerals wrap around the chiseled, finely sculpted finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. Importer: Vintus LLC, Pleasantville, NY; tel. (914) 769-3000, Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639
(from En Orveaux, on the north side of this sprawling grand cru) Bright, deep red. Complex, terroir-driven aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, minerals, licorice, smoke and tobacco, plus a whiff of fruit syrup. Dense, primary and penetrating, but already shows the compelling sweetness of fruit of the vintage. Not yet especially complex but stains the palate on the very long, vibrant aftertaste. An extremely young wine of great finesse.
