Tasting notes
The nose of the 2021 T.H. Rarities Garnacha-Cariñena-Monastrell is expressive, elegant and nuanced, finer than any previous vintages. It was produced from the varieties regrafted on old País vines from the 1940s in Maule, and this 2021 is a blend of 65% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena and only 5% Monastrell. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in second use 400- and 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months and then was blended and aged for a further eight months in oak foudres. There is a sense of harmony and elegance that is quite remarkable, with a rare combination of power and finesse, full of character. The palate is medium to full-bodied with fine tannins and a stony seriousness. 15,000 bottles were filled in October 2022. Lovely.
