La Poderina is the Montalcino estate within the Tenute del Cerro wine group that owns various estates across Tuscany. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a balanced and integrated wine with smooth aromatic transitions that take it from red cherry to spice to grilled rosemary in quick succession. There's a warm touch of toasted espresso bean at the back. This is a very well made wine with soft textural richness and an upfront, international style.

All class and polish, La Poderina's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is wonderfully delicate and layered in the glass. Surprisingly understated for this estate, the 2011 possesses notable grace and precision throughout, with expressive floral and spice notes that add nuance. The tannins need a few years to soften, but there is little doubt this Brunello is one of the better wines from the southern part of Montalcino in 2011. Hints of cedar, dried flowers and anise shape the super attractive finish. The wine's aromatic presence simply adds to its considerable allure.
Tasted blind. Deep, lustrous ruby. Vivid nose of cherry, strawberry and a hint of oak. Rich fruit matched by lovely acidity and chewy tannins. Not super-complex but convincing. Ready now. (WS)
