The 2014 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett (AP #11) shows a super clear, deep and complex blue slate bouquet; this leads to a piquant and filigreed palate, with an ethereal lightness and transparency. It has a salty and slate-like finish, which is very stimulating, pure and long, but neither too fruity nor too intense. Divine!

Introvert, steely nose. Very bright fruit and sculpted structure with some lily scent and rather opulently ripe fruit. Already relatively open. But, like the other wines from this estate, there isn’t much persistence. (JR)
Pure, infectiously juicy white peach fruit is underlain by wet stone, allied to a nutty sense of richness, and reinforced by sweetness that appropriately backs off in the wine’s impressively sustained and delightfully refreshing finish.
Smoky, reductive nose. Finely balanced, sweet and sour harmony and a little prickle of spice on the finish. Delicate but very definite and persistent. High acidity but balanced and a long life ahead. (Shortly after I tasted this, I tasted the Abtsberg 1985 Kabinett and it was unbelievably youthful – still pale and lively with almost no 'kerosene' character, so my drink date may even be conservative.)
