The 2016 Chablis Côte de Léchet 1er Cru has an intense bouquet with scents of pressed white flowers merging with citrus fruit and red apples. The palate is well balanced with a stern opening, then the second half feels a little raw and mean. It almost gets away with it, but it needs more persistence and depth. Tasted blind at the BIVB Chablis tasting.

Unoaked, bottled. Lost half their crop here – the lower part of the vineyard was totally frosted. Lovely fruit here, lemon and clementine. Less herbal but still a fine stony quality. Taut and precise on the palate. More austere than I expected after the aroma but all in balance. Perhaps a little less intensity than the Lys? (JH)
