(fully destemmed; 30% new oak): Healthy bright red. Inviting floral lift to the aromas of raspberry and spicy oak. Juicy, fresh, nicely delineated flavors of raspberry, strawberry and spices. Finishes with sappy, fine-grained tannins and noteworthy length. This village wine boasts very good energy without any stem influence.

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village, which includes declassified young vines from the premier crus, was matured in 30% new oak. Everything here is destemmed. It has a lovely bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit, well defined and elegant. The palate is medium-bodied with dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, fine tannin and well-judged acidity. I would just like to see more red fruit, more pinoté develop by the time this is in bottle.
From Vigneaux and the bottom bit of Brûlées because they don’t reckon it’s up to premier cru standard – a little bit rustic. And young vines. Racked and in tank. No whole bunch . Deep crimson. Quite tight and pungent on the nose – vinified, like all these 2016s, without sulphur. Lots of fruit – very exuberant, but precise too. Long and reverberant. (JR)
