Score 95/100 · Drink 2021-2030, Neal Martin, Apr 2022

The 1966 Haut-Bailly came from one of the last remaining bottles from their cellar and was served blind. It has a stunning bouquet, secondary aromas of course, brine and wilted rose petal, a touch of hickory, taut and crisp. The palate is framed by finely-chiseled tannins, very cohesive and quintessentially mature Graves in style. There is just a touch of piquancy on the finish. Great persistence, well-stored bottles will continue to give pleasure. Tasted from an ex-cellar bottle at the château.

Score 85/100 · Drink 1982, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

The 1996 is fully mature, quite fruity, yet a little more reserved and sterner than the richer, more opulent 1970. The wine reveals some browning at the edge, good concentration, earthy, fruity flavors, and a soft, round finish. Anticipated maturity: Now-may be in decline. Last tasted, 4/82.
