A Burgundy of exquisite finesse and beauty, the 2016 Romanée Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is also one of the most dazzling wines in this flight of Grand Crus. And that is saying a lot. An exotic concoction of dark red fruit, spice and floral notes, the 2016 adds a striking dimension of vertical lift to the typically sensual RSV perfume and silky tannins. Readers lucky enough to own the 2016 will have to be exceedingly patient, but it is very clearly a majestic, thrilling wine in the making. It is also the most mysterious and kaleidoscopic wine in the range. Simply put, the RSV is utterly profound.

One of the high points of the vintage, the 2016 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru captivates the olfactory senses with its striking bouquet of rose petals, citrus rind, cassis, raspberries, dark chocolate and sweet Asian spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, utterly complete and multidimensional, with satiny structuring tannins, immense concentration without the weight and a long, electric and perfumed finish. This is a magisterial achievement and a benchmark against which other wines may be measured.
