Medium red-ruby. Perfumed, superripe aromas of black fruits, iron and coffee. Then broad but quite closed in the middle palate, with a slight roasted character along with a fresher whiff of violet. Finishes with firm tannins. A bit over the top for me.

Deep ruby-red. Musky, reduced nose dominated by chocolate, espresso and spicy oak. Fat, dense and strong, with wild, slightly roasted blackberry and currant flavors. Concentrated, sweet and superripe. Finishes with substantial but thoroughly ripe tannins. Even the vines on flatter land were ripe in 2002, as they suffered less from drought, noted Sylvie. "In a classic year, it's always the hillside vines that are riper, but not in 2002."

Sample very reduced on the nose. Good ripe fruit underneath, but extremely sharp and hard work. Aggressive finish. (JR)
