60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 9% Carmenère, 6% Petit Verdot. Aged for 18 months in French oak (85% new).  Tasted blind. Smoke, black cherry, sweet ripe fruit with lots of confection and juice. Smoothly tannic, full body and ripe with a slight wildness on the finish. (RH)

The 2022 Seña enters on a reticent note, quietly opening up to reveal a dark, leather-bound nose with hints of turned earth, cedar, licorice and graphite accents that manage a levity and high-toned energy. The palate is lively and spry, driven by bright treble tones balanced with weighty, broad depth and a perfectly suave texture. The finish is juicy yet tense, structured and refined, with impressive length and coiled energy. Ever-expanding in the glass, this is a gorgeous, energetic and exuberant example of poise and clarity that should be a pleasure to follow in the cellar. It's a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 9% Carmenere and 6% Petit Verdot aged 18 months mainly in French barrique with some foudre.

Unremarked by some, Seña has totally changed style over the last decade and is now a more elegant, nuanced and complete wine, even in a very dry vintage like 2022. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon with a chorus of 25% Malbec, 9% Carmenère and 6% Petit Verdot, this benefitted from early picking to preserve vivacity and freshness. Adroitly wooded in 85% new barrels, it has subtle Asian spice and dried herb aromas, a waft of graphite and tarragon, bramble, red cherry and blackcurrant leaf flavours, more tannic grip than you think at first and supporting natural acidity.

About the producer

Seña 1:1
Seña

Seña – literally meaning “signal” – was Chile’s first icon wine. In the early 1990s, the country had a reputation mainly for lower-end, high-volume wines, but Eduardo Chadwick, owner and president of Viña Errázuriz, set out to change that.
