The 1962 Richebourg Grand Cru is mature in colour with a wide tuile rim. The bouquet is ethereal in keeping with all the 1962s that I have tasted from the domaine. Hints of strawberry punnets, black tea and a cheeky dab of star anis discretely bloom over 10 to 15 minute's aeration. There is beguiling weight and symmetry on the palate, a fine bead of acidity and typical structure. Even grip, that one expects from this Grand Cru, fans out with candied orange peel and a touch of brine on the finish. This is simply majestic. 16,416 bottles produced. Tasted at the Romanée-Conti dinner at the Connaught Hotel.

Compelling in every sense of the word, the rose hip tea colored wine was stunning! The purity of fruit, freshness and silky, elegant, refined textures was off the hook. The cherries tasted like they were just picked off the vine. There was an almost port-like sweetness to the red fruit. There was length, expansion of flavors and so much, cherry, kirsch, bay leaf, Asian spice box and licorice, you just kept going back for me. Worth the money? I suppose that depends on your net-worth and sense of value. But value aside, this was an astounding wine tasting experience. The bottle came from the original purchaser, which I am sure added to the quality of the wine. 98 Points
