The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet with pure brambly raspberry and cranberry scents, understated at first but blossoming in the glass. There is something almost regal about these aromas and it eventually develops a lovely cherry Bakewell scent. The palate is very well defined with finely chiselled tannins that convey a sense of symmetry that is beguiling. Plenty of sapidity on the finish, this fans out gloriously. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru includes 60% whole clusters. This has a typically regal bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, loam, crushed stone and spicebox. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, wonderful depth, great intensity and vibrancy with a long and persistent finish. This simply builds and builds unlike the Chapelle-Chambertin, a magnificent 2021.
The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of dark cherries and mulberries mingled with notions of forest floor, vine smoke, dark chocolate and spices. Full-bodied, layered and velvety, it's deep and complete, with rich, powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, resonant finish. It's the cuvée that incorporates the highest percentage of whole bunch in the range this year.
