Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2021-2029, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Etelois has a tightly wound bouquet of vivid red cherry and cranberry fruit laced with orange zest, a seam of crushed stone tucked in just underneath the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannin on the entry. There is a pleasant sour cherry note here lending fine tension although, I hope it fleshes out a little towards the slightly "skinny" finish. Bizarrely, somehow this reminds me of a Bourgeuil from the Loire (in a positive sense of the comparison.)
