Tasting notes
Picked three times longer than normal due to fussy selections, the ruby-colored 2016 Pinot Noir Malans Unique offers an intense and sweet, perfectly ripe and concentrated cassis and cherry bouquet paired with purity and flinty/smoky notes of crushed stones, red meat and bacon. Full-bodied, tightly woven and tensioned with firm but crunchy tannins, blackcurrant juice and fine toast aromas, this is an intense and sustainable, powerful and sweet Pinot Noir that in the end benefited from an extremely warm and dry summer, whereas the spring was cool and rainy with lots of Peronospora problems. It's less delicate than 2014 but with concentration, grip and aging potential. A wine to keep. 13.5% stated alcohol. Tasted from magnum in Zurich, April 2022.
