Tasting notes
Christmann's 2022 Riesling Idig VDP.Grosse Lage opens surprisingly coolish and precise on the nose, which is herbaceous and spicy and provided with a hint of lime and oatmeal. Clear and fresh on the palate, with a fine limestone character, this is a vital, delicate and exciting Idig with remarkable freshness for the adventurously hot and dry vintage and a fresh, citrusy-tart finish. Tasted at the Rebholz Kastanienbusch/Christmann Idig/Wittmann Morstein vertical tasting in Westhofen in late August 2024.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Königsbacher Idig Grosses Gewächs has a brooding tone on the nose, combining smoke and cherry juice. The palate is fresh and bright, immediately presenting tension, verve, tart cherry, mulberry and forest fruit sorbet. The palate is slender, with beautifully fused, supple tannins that are tight and detailed. All is lifted and defined in the bright light cast by vivid acidity. This has elegance, poise and length. Superb. (Bone-dry)
Delicate stone-fruit aromas and a cool balsamic lift on the palate as well as the nose. Given time in the glass, it evolves beautifully. Citrus precision and focus. Notable power is woven with an elegant texture and smoky nuance. Tremendous length. (PS)
