Score 93/100 · Drink 2015-2039, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Nov 2015

From the beginning of World War II (which was a very poor vintage with only demi-sec wines being produced), Huet's 1939 Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Demi-Sec shows a dark golden color and clear and intense fruit along with iodine flavors on the stunningly fresh and focused nose. Slightly sweet, beautifully concentrated and with a firm, almost stringent acidity on the palate, this medium-bodied, refined and elegant Chenin reveals a stimulating purity, salinity and mineral grip as well as a very good and tension-filled finish, although I surely don't have the best bottle here since the finish is to astringent, for a higher score. However, this wine is still enormously vital and ageless, very firm and grippy. It is no charmer though. Good aperitif but should go very well also with fresh cheese. It could reach its 100th birthday. (605 EUR)
