2016 Nuits St Georges Les Chaignots

Michelot's 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots is a deep, concentrated wine that's strikingly saturated in hue, unfurling in the glass with aromas of smoky dark berry fruit, pencil shavings and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a richly extracted chassis of powdery structuring tannin, a deep core of fruit, racy acids and a youthfully firm finish. While this is somewhat aggressively extracted for my taste, it's sufficiently well balanced to deserve the benefit of the doubt as to its future evolution.
