The 2016 Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru has quite a deep and broody bouquet at first, but it opens nicely with blackberry, raspberry preserve and crushed rose petal scents, cassis following behind. The palate is sweet and generous on the entry, the oak a little dominant at the moment, although there is plenty of fleshy red fruit behind it, plus a hint of hickory on the finish. To be honest, I would be seeking more from a grand cru of this stature.
