Tasting notes
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2020

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is pretty austere and hard to read today. There is a good bit of richness, but at the same time the 2017 is clenched and in need of more time in bottle. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, pear and dried flowers gradually reveal themselves. Readers need to be patient here. (AG)

Once again there is ample Chablis typicity to the mineral reduction, iodine, petrol, apple and soft tidal pool whiffs. The caressing and rounded flavors are more 2017 in style than the two prior wines as there isn't quite the same salinity and delineation though the mouth feel of the sneaky long finish is finer. In sum, this is perfectly good but not distinguished for its level.

Aromas of lemon oil, white flowers, peach pit and wet stones introduce the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons, a medium to full-bodied, elegantly glossy wine with lovely cut and chalky tension, concluding with a pure and stony finish. Hailing from vines in the lieu-dit of Minots, it's a lovely Chablis from Jean-Marie Guffens and his able team.
