The Drouhin plot is in En Orveaux, towards the bottom of the vineyard – and tends to fare well in drier years. The 2022 is detailed, delicate and precise – with aromas of chai tea, sweet spice, and dainty red berries. There’s a persistence to the fruit on the palate that is impressive, working alongside the lacy tannins, building to a smoky, savoury, earthy finish. Very fine.

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru bursts with aromas of sweet berries, cherries, rose petals, spices and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad and rich palate that's supple, giving and expansive.
Medium deep colour. They don’t usually show this but Véronique loves it in 2022. Their location, En Orveaux, does well in drier years. Starts well, shows the detail, then suddenly kicks on impressively with more energy behind than usual.
The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru includes 25% whole bunches. This has a more floral bouquet, wilted red rose petals intermixed with crushed rock and brambly red fruit. Quite taut and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, impressive in terms of purity, with a dab of black pepper heightening the finish. Good precision throughout.

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
