Tasting notes
East-facing, Champeaux is a cooler site in Gevrey-Chambertin, sitting below Goulots and Combe au Moine. Tortochot has a 0.8-hectare plot of the site, and it’s always a structured wine – especially in 2022. The wine is instantly darker than the Lavaux St-Jacques tasted before, with intense black cherry fruit. Solid and stern with drying tannins, there are hints of savoury complexity and more delicate florals, with a smoky hint on the finish, but it’s still closed – and needs time to unfurl.

About the producer

Situated in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Tortochot may not carry the cachet of the very top domaines in the village, but it does offer some of the best value, producing wines with great terroir transparency in their top Premiers and Grands Crus, and fabulous village wines.
