Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Asterisk is starting to evolve into a stewed plums, baked blackberries and warm cassis character with touches of unsmoked cigars, sandalwood, potpourri, sautéed herbs and truffles plus a waft of leather. Full-bodied, the palate delivers loads of herb-accented black fruit preserves layers with a chewy frame and great freshness, finishing long and earthy.
Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, tobacco, licorice and spices flesh out in the 2010 ASTERISK. Rich, round and creamy, the Asterisk shows plenty of SLOAN ESTATE personality in a juicy, approachable style. The tannins could use another year or two to soften, but the wine's balance is terrific. The blend is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and drops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
About the producer
Sloan’s 13-acre estate vineyard, composed of mineral-rich, fractured volcanic rock and sandy loam, is located high in the eastern hills of Rutherford. Their inaugural vintage was 2000 and since it has grown a tremendous cult following for those lucky enough to get their hands on a few bottles.
