Ripe quince and Golden Delicious apple are wreathed in musky narcissus and tinged with pungency of bruised apple skin on a nose that foreshadows the almost decadently ripe fruit and inner-mouth perfume, but also the counterpoint of chew and piquancy, that emerges on the polished, buoyant palate. Fresh lime injects welcome juiciness and animation to a lusciously lingering finish where high residual sugar is held in check. Interestingly for a vintage in which many growers found it challenging to capture ripeness at a must weight appropriate to Kabinett, the volume of this bottling slightly exceeds the aggregate volume of the present collection’s two Doctor Spätlesen.

The 2017 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett is clear, bright, fresh and still reductive on the flinty, coolish-crunchy nose that evokes crushed rocks. Silky textured and highly elegant, this is a gorgeously lush and finessed Doctor Kabinett with a long, salty and stimulatingly piquant but beautifully balanced finish. This is a noble Riesling with clear fruit and terroir expression. The sweetness is discreet, but the fruit is piquant and salty, the structure highly finessed and the whole architecture crystalline like a Gothic chapel. Highly recommended! Tasted from AP 2 18.
RS 61 g/l, TA 8.6 g/l. Icing sugar and citrus fruit titillate the olfactory perception, the slaty provenance of the Doctor reveals itself in a faint dusty notion of pencil shavings. On the palate it is the mineral element that takes a perfect combination of seductive fruity sweetness and healthy acidity to another level of complexity. (MS)
I love the ripe peachy fruit of this wine. Behind that, there\'s a great mineral structure that effortlessly carries the long and elegant finish. Impeccable balance. Drink or hold.
