Wowsers – this has all the honey, petrol and lime that you could hope for. Very old-fashioned, very honeyed, but beautifully balanced by laser-line acidity. There's a fair bit of sulphur on the nose, but that is all part of the style. Fresh and pristine. (RH)

Persian melon and pear tinged with spearmint on the nose translate into succulence on a subtly creamy, sorbet-like palate. The soothingly sustained finish is coolingly mint-laced. Will greater complexity or a mineral dimension emerge with time in bottle?
Still a baby, the 2018 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett is clear, pure and flinty on the interesting but still reductive nose. It is fresh and charming on the palate, but it does't have the intensity and grip of the 2017. It's rare a classic Kabinett, lithe and racy-piquant but quaffable. Tasted in March 2019.
Cask sample. Dense, pure fruit soars above the winemaking. This is Mosel freshness in spades. Super-clean finish. Definitely superior. (JR)
