The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru does not quite deliver the vivacity or delineation of Liger-Belair's Clos des Grandes Vignes - a little oaky, but there is sufficient fruit to support it. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins, good weight and acidity. The muscular finish lacks the elegance and refinement that a cooler vintage would bestow. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Lovely stuff with everything in the right place and proportion. Still youthful but the class of the vineyard shines out. Long and sophisticated. Great tannin and fruit balance. Hint of chestnuts. Not super-fruity – just eloquent. (JR)
