2013 Charmes Chambertin

(a blend of Charmes and Mazoyères): Dark red. In a very ripe style ("as usual" for this cuvée , notes Magnien), hinting at black cherry, licorice pastille and damp earth. Quite rich and deep; this wine might well offer early appeal just for its atypical sweetness but its powerful, rather monolithic tannins shut down the fruit on the back end.
