The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is also showing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with aromas of orange rind, cherries, red berries, cinnamon and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant, the wine's ample core of ripe, sun-kissed fruit expresses the vintage, while its refined, chalky tannins and exquisite definition remain unerringly true to its site.

The 2018 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru includes around 50% whole-bunch fruit. The engaging nose features beautifully defined black fruit intermixed with crushed limestone and shucked oyster shell aromas that leap from the glass. The palate is very well balanced, with fine tannins, palpable energy and a pixelated, mineral-rich finish that has greater persistence than Santenots or Les Brouillards. Superb.
