The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Herbues had the honor of being wine number 2,497, the final tasting note of a five-week marathon in the Côte d'Or. It proved to be a perfect ending. The disarmingly pure nose features red fruit infused with floral notes of red rose and peony. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins matched with a fine bead of acidity. Reassuringly harmonious, with a silky finish plus a touch of piquancy, this is aging well and should provide a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.

Nicolas Faure's 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Herbues is showing beautifully, delivering a lovely bouquet of wild berries, peonies, rose petals, violets and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, its pretty core of fruit is girdled by lively acids and exquisitely powdery tannins, concluding with a long and perfumed finish. This was fermented without destemming and matured in used barrels.
Just bottled. Lightish cherry red. A touch stemmy alongside the pretty red fruits. Soft, delicate and elegant but persistent too. Supple, a lightness of touch. (JH)
