(bottled in August): Bright medium red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and flowers lifted by a minty topnote. Not fleshy or fat but high-pitched and aromatic, with floral and spice flavors showing very good precision and perfume. Cazetiers in a lighter, very aromatic style, without the animal character of many examples of this premier cru. Finishes with sneaky lingering red fruits and flowers.
The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1Er Cru Cazetiers was picked on September 21 and completely destemmed. It has good intensity on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, just a touch of reduction to contend with but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry. There is good substance here, although I would have liked a little more finesse to come through on the finish.
New in 2013; they have contracts with two growers. 17 months in oak. Bottled. Lightish cherry red. Peppery fresh dark fruit. Lightweight but savoury, with nice dry texture seeming to add length. (JH)

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
