The 1989 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru came directly from the Domaine and has a fresh nose with redcurrant, briar and leather notes. More secondary scents, such as sandalwood and dried blood, develop in the glass. The palate is well-defined with plenty of freshness. It does miss some complexity, although I appreciate the tension on the finish. It's not bad at all, although one would expect more given the producer and vineyard.
