Tasting notes
Spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. Ageing for 10 years in old American oak casks in the canteiro system (gradually moved from the warmer rooms of the lodge to the cooler ones). TA 6.5 g/l, VA 0.33 g/l, pH 3.44, RS 68 g/l. Bottled in 2019 – 3,000 50-cl bottles. Bright gold and bronze and brown. Briny. Sour cherry. Lime pickle. So much tang! Robust but angular. Walnuts in lime syrup. Touch of coffee, cacao husk. Long, firm spine of acidity. Persistent. Very long, very strong, very muscular, very firm. Tastes dryer than the 10 Year Old Verdelho. Absolutely no hurry to drink this, and needs food – something like a Thai Massaman beef curry with lots of tamarind paste and fish sauce and lime juice, or the Persian khoresht e ghormeh sabzi , or Kerala’s salmon pollichattu . Blandy's 2008 Verdelho Colheita was bottled in 2019, and it's showing well, offering up aromas of honey cake, sultanas, old Armagnac and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, sweet and fleshy, with ripe acids, an enveloping core of fruit and a rich finish.
