The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, which includes 70% whole clusters, had been sulfured three weeks earlier and just racked. It has a simple, fresh, almost dainty red cherry and strawberry bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins and a slightly earthy finish. Drink over the next four to six years.

Racked to tank mid November and will be bottled before Christmas. Mainly from Croix des Champs (east of the D974) not from the Brochon side, which tends to give more powerful and tannic wines. Fruit from an organic grower in this instance – but not the case for all the négoce wines. Dark and stony on the nose but opens to dark, elegant purity of fruit. Light but not thin. Delicate, dusty and still juicy. Extremely moreish. (JH)
