Good medium-dark red with ruby highlights. Tight nose offers blackberry, violet, menthol and a touch of oak spice (Philippe Drouhin finds this too oaky). The palate offers good richness and breadth, with dark berry flavors showing an element of finesse. Finishes with building oak tannins.
Domaine parcel in the south of Nuits near Rue de Chaux. Old vines with a third replanted a few years ago. Deep soils. Dark crimson. Firm, racy, mineral nose. Broad and fruity impact – not that subtle and very round and easy. Quite powerful. Concentrated. Solid. Neat. Aerienne wine? (A tad obvious.) (JR)

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
