2021 Nackenheimer Rothenberg Spatlese

Of the full range of site-specific Prädikate harvested in 2021, this Riesling Nackenheimer Rothenberg Spätlese was the first to be released. The others will spend considerably more time in the cellar before release. The nose is still shy and a little clouded by sulfur dioxide. It's made from fruit from earlier stages of botrytis infection (around 50%) alongside healthy grapes. The potentilla and red stone spice appears only at the second sniff, followed by a distant hint of clear blossom honey. The palate has gentle sweetness cut with vivid freshness. Lovely concentration spreads across the palate, filling it with lemon-tinged yellow apple notes and its own gentle intensity. There's 89 g/l of residual sweetness against 8.5 g/l of acidity. (Sweet)
