Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Groffier's 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Sentiers has an intense bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, quite spicy and slightly oriental in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, again, spicy and lively with a sappy, saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a superb, if not particularly subtle, Chambolle-Musigny destined to give many years of drinking pleasure. Tasted September 2017.

Good medium-dark red. Aromas of plum, raspberry and minerals are complicated by smoky soil tones; ultimately higher-pitched than the Haut-Doix. Then more saline and reserved on the palate, with stronger acid cut keeping the fruit under wraps today. Finishes with a firm spine of acidity and serious granular tannins that will require time in the cellar.

(from 80-year-old vines; 80% vendange entier_; 50% new oak): Good dark red with ruby highlights. Pure, vibrant nose offers blackberry, violet, spices, crushed stone and graphite minerality. Juicy, intense and gripping, with a serious spine of brisk acidity giving the purple fruit flavors a very primary character. Light herb and black pepper notes from the stems are buffered by the wine's creaminess of fruit. Terrific tension in the mouth.
