2019 Chablis Vosgros

The 2019 Chablis Vosgros 1er Cru was showing just a small reduction on the nose, though it could not disguise the scents of yellow plum and honeysuckle and touches of wet limestone. The palate is very well balanced, taut and fresh, pinned down by a fine bead of acidity and very intense on the minerally finish. This fulfills the potential I found last year out of barrel.

The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros gets my nod as Picq's finest wine in this ripe vintage. Mingling notes of crisp Anjou pear and green apple with hints of wet stones, oyster shell and white flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, with a textural attack and an ample core of fruit that's girdled by bright acids, concluding with a long, saline finish.

The 2019 Chablis Vosgros comes from vines planted in the early 1960s and in 1986. The nose sports a very subtle but beneficial reduction, and there are lovely, pure dried pineapple and crushed limestone scents underneath. The palate is well balanced with a little more substance than the Vaucoupin and comes across as spicier toward the persistent finish. Excellent, but this cuvée will demand the most patience from Picq’s devotees.
