(70% of the crop was lost to frost): Pale, green-tinged yellow. Riper and more classic on the nose than the Clos de Mazeray, offering scents of yellow peach, lemon, lime and white flowers. A step up in texture too from the rather skinny Clos de Mazeray, showing good energy and cut and surprising mineral-driven acidity. Perhaps a bit lacking in flavor development owing to the frost but finishes saline and firm, with more length than the Clos de Mazeray.

(just 12% potential alcohol at harvest, from badly frosted east-facing vines that produced just 12 hectoliters per hectare; 100% destemmed, like the Beaune Clos de la Féguine): Bright red-ruby. Pure but subdued aromas of black cherry and licorice. Dense and rich, conveying a lovely impression of sucrosité along with hints of anise and saline minerality. Surprisingly relaxed for such a low-yield wine. Very concentrated, serious Beaune premier cru with slowly building salty persistence.

The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Greves, which comes from a hectare of young vines, consists of just two barrels this year. It has a light, slightly resinous, waxy bouquet that needs a little more vigor. The palate is better with a crisp line of acidity, subtle tropical notes complementing the citrus fruit with a nicely detailed, concise finish.
