The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) has turned out nicely this year, bursting with aromas of orange rind, sweet berry fruit, petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and perfumed, it's ample and generous, concluding with a youthfully chewy finish.

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very seductive, quintessential nose with plush blueberry and black cherry fruit, well defined, sumptuous in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine acidity, dense and grippy with an almost Mazis-like structure on the finish. Excellent, but it will require time in bottle.
Old vines. Cask sample. Mid crimson. Rich, deep, sweet red fruit with a little touch of smoky, toasty oak on the nose. A wine you just want to inhale. Tannins are firm, compact, like many layers of paper, with some oak sweetness on the palate too but definitely in the background. The tannins are up front here, the fruit, a little hidden behind. Less captivating on the palate than on the nose, and clearly needs more time than some. (JH)

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
