(25% vendange entier ; includes estate fruit as well as purchased grapes from vines worked by Drouhin): Medium red. Slightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, menthol and mint. Juicy, firmly built and energetic, in a distinctly dry style. A bit tannic and reticent for young village wine but finishes with good length. I suspect that this wine could be carafed and then serve chilled for its youthful fruit, but I'd rather wait a couple years.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a light and rather linear bouquet that is missing the sensuality that other vintages of this exact wine have offered. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin and nicely judged acidity; however, it does not offer the panache or the harmony of either the Vosne-Romanée or the Gevrey-Chambertin. Hopefully, there will be some uplift once this is in bottle.

Cask sample. 10% whole cluster. 15 months in oak. Light to mid crimson. So fragrant and delicate on the nose with delicate spice and very pretty, fresh dark-red fruit. Smooth, soft and fresh on the palate. Delicate though not lacking shape or length. On the lighter side. (JH)
