Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2007, Pierre Rovani, Oct 1999

Regrettably, only one barrel (25 cases) of the delicious 1997 Charmes-Chambertin was crafted. Aromatically, it offers sweet red fruits, spices, and toasty oak. This broad, creamy, fresh, and sultry wine is medium-bodied, complex, and delicious. Opulent layers of syrupy red cherries, as well as other assorted fruits coat the taster's palate. Anticipated maturity: now-2007. Importer: Neal Rosenthal Wine Merchant, New York, NY; tel (800) 910-1990.

Good dark red. Pretty, floral aromas of currant, red cherry, licorice and flowers. Thick, supple and quite flatteur today, thanks to its wonderful sweetness. Stylish and floral, if a bit light in structure for a Gevrey grand cru. But finishes very long, with strong fruit.
