The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has an open nose with clear whole cluster influence, a little stemmy, which becomes accentuated with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a raw entry, quite edgy tannins and a distinct green streak that runs from start to finish. Certainly some underripe fruit and tomato vine notes, though it is still appealing despite all that, perhaps terroir averting potential disaster. Fine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

From 2 parcels and a total of 0.7 ha (1.73 acres). Vines aged >65 years. Mid-pale cherry. Hello, beauty! Roses and peonies, very elegant – spectacularly so, and to my mind more reminiscent of Les Amoureuses than a typical Bonnes Mares. Filigree in a high-gothic way; all feathers and ether. Very fine, very elegant. Scintillating. (MH)

The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru includes 100% whole bunches this year, and those stems are conveyed strongly on the nose, not unattractive and yet obscure a bit of the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins. I feel the whole bunches risk overwhelming this Bonnes-Mares because there isn't sufficient fruit to soak them up. Let's see how this evolves.
