The 2019 vintage sees the introduction of three new bottlings at Durfort Vivens. This one is formed from young vines (les plantes in French), and majors on soft supple tannins, plenty of vivacity. The highest in acidity of the three new bottlings, with an emphasis on savoury fruits and floral character. Highest in Cabernet Sauvignon also, reflecting the variety that is going in the ground here - they have taken the decision not to plant any more Merlot. Aged in a mix of barrels and amphoras.
Once again the wood treatment is subtle but not invisible though it easily allows the earthier aromas of cool red currant, violet and plum to be appreciated. There is more volume though less finesse to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess a taut muscularity on the robust finale that is firmer still. Patience definitely advised.
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Plantes 1er Cru is 100% destemmed and raised in 25–30% new oak. This is one cuvée that I found showed some sur-maturité on the nose, displaying figgy/prune-like aromas. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry with luscious blue fruit, crème de cassis and juniper berries. Quite seductive, but it feels dictated by the growing season.
