Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2023-2038, Neal Martin, Dec 2020
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru, spelled with a "t" like Drouhin Laroze rather than "Lavaux," is matured entirely with whole cluster. It has a well-defined bouquet, the 80-year-old vines imparting complexity and great terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, hints of dark chocolate toward the finish suggesting it will need time to integrate. Maybe just missing a notch of complexity on the finish; I would still afford it 3–4 years in bottle.
