The 2020 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru takes time to unfold on the nose. It's a little more introverted, with darker fruit, a touch of reduction, raspberry, bergamot and light rooibos scents developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more fruit concentration than d'Eugénie's Grands-Echézeaux, and a rounded texture. Cinnamon and allspice traces appear towards the tarry yet delineated finish. There is real persistence here—superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
