The Griottes-Chambertin is a new addition to Bichot’s portfolio, with this the second vintage, and it is great value for a Grand Cru of this calibre. The nose is rich and powerful with notes of freshly crushed spices and ripe, dark red fruit, lifted with fresh aromas of rose petals. The medium to full-bodied palate is really interesting, with opulent, austere, but well-integrated tannins. The mid-palate opens up with a great line of acidity which drives ripe raspberry and cherry notes on to a long, narrow, complex finish. It is a serious wine. It’s great to see the talented Alain Serveau getting to know this terroir, and extracting the best of it with this superb wine, famously known as “the Queen of the Cellar”. Dink 2029-2040.
About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
