Sweet minerals and spicy pears are found in the aromatic and flavor profiles of the 2002 Riesling Spatlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Plump, lush, and sporting a texture reminiscent of a goose-down duvet, it pleases with its sultry mouth-feel and copious fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. Tasting J. J. Prum’s 2002s at such an early stage in their development was particularly difficult due to their high levels of sulfur and CO2. Readers wishing to drink any of theses wines in the next two years are well-advised to decant them for a few hours before serving.

(tasted from cask) Pear, apple, pink grapefruit, honey and vanilla on the nose. Delicate yet plush on the palate, with subtle nut oil and vanilla notes adding to the generous, mouth-coating appeal of the fruit and slate dialogue. Offers a creaminess of texture without loss of delicacy and lift, with spicy, pink grapefruit citricity coming to the fore as this opens up in the glass. The finish offers superb concentration and complexity and luscious, savory satisfaction. 2 stars.
