Aroha (= love, thought up by late Doug Wisor, who died in a surfing accident ). Mid slope. More clay so silkier tannins than Te Muna Road. Pale garnet. Water-white rim. More complex than the nose of the Te Muna Road bottling in 2019. Very sweet start and firm structure. Hint of orange flavour. Again, a little dry on the end. Just a little jagged. (JR)

Screwcapped bottle an unnecessarily heavy 1,565 g. Their best parcels of Pinot Noir in this prime New Zealand Pinot location, bottled, after oak ageing, 11 months after the vintage. Transparent garnet. Flattering nose with sweetness and a certain green rhubarb character. I wonder what that greenness is? A tad too much whole bunch?? It could not be anything other than Pinot but is not perfect alas. (JR)

This is a wine that you sink into, like soaking in a warm bath after a hard day. You can expect intense fruit concentration in this luxurious wine, filling the palate with its sweet, rich fruit and layers of damsons, blueberries, violets and garrigue. The tannins are abundant yet resolved and create a frame that provides a gentle grip around the rich, but never heavy, fruit. You could drink this young in its sumptuous youth but it will mature nicely over the next decade. For those interested in technical details, this was 63% whole bunch with 14 months in French oak, of which 36% was new. It is unfiltered.
