New Zealand

The wine industry in New Zealand may be young, but it has rapidly proven its place on the global scene. Alongside exuberant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, the Kiwis are crafting exceptional Chardonnay, peppered and perfumed Syrah in Hawke’s Bay, and refined Pinot Noir.

About the wines of New Zealand

Sitting at the bottom of the earth, it’s no surprise that New Zealand, a remote island nation, came late to the wine party. It wasn’t until 1819 that the first vine was planted in Aotearoa – several centuries later than Chile, Argentina and South Africa. Based on the current success of New Zealand wine, you might find current figures even more surprising: 75% of the country’s current vineyards were not even conceived in the year 2000.
