Tasting notes
Revisited in bottle, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of peonies, spices, sweet berries, plums and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, it's rich but lively, with fine concentration and a long, saline finish.

Cask sample from this vineyard just below Mazis and vines planted in the 1940s. Mid garnet. Really broad, expansive nose with very much more than just fruit. Then on the palate there is ambitious grip after layers of red fruits and some mineral elements. It would be a shame to drink this too young, however charming it is in youth. There is clearly much to be unfurled. Hint of moss and amazing persistence. This is serious wine! (As one would hope in view of the price.) (JR)
