Tasting notes
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru lacks some delineation on the nose. Perhaps it was picked a little late. There is some warmth of alcohol here as it develops quite a potent, if incongruous eucalyptus scent. The palate is medium-bodied, with sappy red fruit and touches of clove and cinnamon leading to a harmonious and quite persistent finish. Maybe it leans a little toward the showy side of Pinot Noir, but those who like a more extravagant Nuits Saint-Georges will appreciate this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru was a little more reduced than Gouges’s other cuvées, opening gradually to reveal blackberry, wild hedgerow and incense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, lithe and silky in the mouth, and fleshy with a judicious touch of white pepper toward the finish. The shortfall in grip and substance is sufficiently compensated with elegance.
